Tourist
Development Cultural/Arts Grant
The Sarasota County Arts
Council administers approximately $1.5 million each year in Tourist Development
Cultural Arts Grants to arts organizations in Sarasota County.
Grants are available
to organizations with recognized ability to produce, present and promote
cultural
and arts activities. Qualifying organizations must also:
- Have completed one full year of operation prior to application deadline.
- Be Sarasota County-based
- Make the project accessible to the public and to disabled persons
- Demonstrate that the project has artistic merit
- Be exempt from taxation under Section 501© (3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Match the dollar amount requested on a dollar-for-dollar basis, showing revenue
specifically contributed for the program (25% of match may be in-kind).
Funds will not be granted
for Arts Day performances, capital or operating support, cash reserve, attendance
at conferences and seminars, endowment, travel/entertainment expenses, fellowships/sholarships,
fundraising, individuals, loans, multi-year pledges, administrative costs not
related to the project, space rentals not related to the project, or touring
outside of Sarasota County. Funds requested for real property, reduction of
existing deficits, payroll taxes, pension or fringe benefits, utilities, complimentary
tickets; audition expenses, or general organizational marketing programs and/or
expenses will also be excluded.

Monday, January 28 Grant Writing Workshop at Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice 4-6 p.m.
Tuesday, January 29 Grant Writing Workshop at the Roskamp Building 4-6 p.m.
Monday, March 24 Grant Application Deadline (application must be postmarked by this date)
Wednesday, April 9 Grant Panel Orientation at the Arts Council 2-3:00 p.m. (Applies to Panelists only)
Wednesday, April 30 Deadline for Panelists to electronically submit all initial questions for 1st Round Grant Panel meeting
Friday, May 2 Deadline for SCAC staff to forward Panel questions to applicants
Monday, May 12 Deadline for Applicants to submit replies to Panel questions
Friday, May 23 First Grant Panel meeting at the Arts Council 9:30-5 p.m. (All applicants required to attend)
Friday, May 30 Second Grant Panel meeting at the Arts Council 9:30-5:00 p.m. (Attendance required only for applicants with unresolved Panel questions remaining from the First Panel meeting; attendance by all others is optional)
Wednesday, June 4 Deadline for Panelists to submit Final Scores to SCAC Staff
Friday, June 6 Final Grant Panel meeting at the Arts Council 2:00 p.m. Attendance for all applicants is optional. (Score notifications sent to applicants by e-mail on this date)
Wednesday, June 11 Panelist and Applicant Program Evaluation meeting
Friday, June 13 Deadline for Request for Reconsideration
June (TBD) Arts Council Board reviews awards
July (TBD) Contract documents and other grant forms distributed
TDC reviews awards
Notice of grant awards is sent to applicants
One-on-One meetings between applicants and SCAC Staff to discuss grant guidelines, policies and procedures
Friday, August 15 Deadline for Contracts to be returned to Arts Council
September Board of County Commissions gives final approval and signs Grant contracts. Official award letters sent to grantees.
October 1, 2008 Projects must start on or after October 1, 2008. Reimbursement period begins.
September 30, 2009 Projects must end by September 30, 2009
